History of Long Grove

History of Long Grove This charming little village was settled in the early 1800's by German farmers. They tended their farms and came to the crossroads to buy their supplies, weigh their milk, make their cheese at the Cooperative, have their horses shod, and exchange the news of the district. Devout in their Protestant faith, they worshipped and socialized at the little church at the top of the hill. Their homes and businesses now bear plaques identifying their importance in Long Grove history. The village went into a sleepy decline in the 30's and 40's and the quaint old buildings remained untouched by progress. Around the middle of the century, several women opened an antique resale shop in the crossroads area and other shops soon followed. Today, some 85 businesses cater to the needs of modern shoppers. Through foresight, planning and luck, the integrity of the Historic Business District still remains.
